How a South Florida Leak Detection Company Got 4,237 Ad Clicks at About $1.60 Each
Total Leak Detection finds hidden water leaks across South Florida, in business since 2019. Their customers are homeowners staring at a water bill that doubled or a warm spot on the floor. They need someone who can find the leak without tearing the house apart, and they need them soon.
From May 16 to October 25, 2026, the Google Ads account drove 4,237 clicks for $6,771.61, about $1.60 per click. From July 30 to October 29, 2026, the site earned 120K Google Search impressions (Google Search Console). From July 30 to October 29, 2026, GA4 logged 681 phone_call_click events (468 users) and 49 generate_lead events (42 users). Google Ads recorded 879 tap-to-call clicks and 20 form leads from May 16 to Oct 30, 2026, plus 3 verified calls of 60 seconds or longer since Oct 13.
The Challenge: Paying Only for the Right Searches
Leak detection sits next to plumbing, pool repair, mold and general contracting in search results. That creates three problems:
- Wasted clicks: broad terms pull in people looking for a handyman, a drain plumber or a pool repair company.
- A fuzzy offer: "free estimate" language didn't tell people what they were booking.
- Diagnostics vs repairs: Total Leak Detection finds leaks; it doesn't do full repiping. The site and ads had to say that clearly.
What We Did
Ran focused Google Ads. The account runs a core Search campaign, a Performance Max campaign and, since September 2026, a separate Search campaign for sewer camera inspections. We review the search terms every week and block searches that aren't a fit. In October 2026 that meant adding pool and spa negatives plus other off-target terms, and pausing pool keywords.
Narrowed the site to what the business actually does. In October 2026 we retired the pool and spa leak pages and redirected 45 of those URLs to the main leak detection page.
Made one clear offer. "Book $49 Leak Evaluation" now leads the main pages and the contact page (October 21–23, 2026), so visitors know what they're booking and what it costs.
Built service-and-city pages and useful guides. Leak detection has its own city pages (Boca Raton, Coral Gables and more). A sewer camera inspection hub and cost guide (October 2026) and seasonal guides, like checking for leaks when you return to a closed-up home, answer the questions people ask before they call.
Tracked every call button. On October 13, 2026, we extended GA4 phone tracking from the sticky call bar to every phone link on the site.

| Lead events | 49 generate_lead events (42 users) | Jul 30–Oct 29, 2026 | GA4 |
| Ads conversion actions | 879 tap-to-call clicks and 20 form leads, plus 3 verified calls of 60 seconds or longer since Oct 13, 2026 | May 16–Oct 30, 2026 | Google Ads |
| Google rating | 4.6★ from 145 Google reviews | Oct 30, 2026 | Google Business Profile |
Call-button taps aren't completed calls. Phone tracking widened to every phone link on October 13, 2026, and the site's call-to-action changed on October 21 and 23, so earlier and later weeks aren't directly comparable. Review counts reflect the business's own customer service.
What's Next
- Ads match the site: carrying the $49 Leak Evaluation offer into every ad, so the ad and the landing page say the same thing.
- Cleaner conversion tracking: separating verified calls and form submissions from other tracked actions in Google Ads, so reports show booked evaluations.
- More answers: adding guides for the leak and mold questions people search most in South Florida.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much do Google Ads cost for a leak detection company?
It depends on market and budget. For Total Leak Detection in South Florida, the account spent $6,771.61 for 4,237 clicks from May 16 to Oct 25, 2026, about $1.60 per click (Google Ads account data).
Should a leak detection company run Performance Max or Search campaigns?
We ran both. Search campaigns capture people typing a specific need, and Performance Max reaches people across Google's network. We also built a separate Search campaign for sewer camera inspections so that budget doesn't compete with core leak searches.
How do you track call-button taps on a leak detection website?
GA4 records a phone_call_click event each time someone taps a call button or phone link. From Jul 30 to Oct 29, 2026, Total Leak Detection's site logged 681 phone_call_click events (468 users). These are taps on the call button, not completed calls, and tracking was widened to every phone link on Oct 13, 2026, and the site's call-to-action changed on Oct 21 and Oct 23, so counts across the window aren't uniform.
