Bar chart of monthly marketing-team cost for DIY tools, freelancers, agencies, an in-house specialist and Aipress.io

Short answer: Covering every marketing job a local business needs (website, showing up on Google, your Google Business Profile and listings, articles, social media, short videos, email, competitor research, and reports) costs about $1,600 a month if you combine a budget published mix of tools and vendors and run them yourself. It costs about $1,000 – $2,600 a month in freelancer time, about $3,800 – $12,300 a month through typical agencies, and about $9,600 a month for one in-house marketing specialist once you add benefits. Those figures don't include ad spend or a new website. Aipress.io, which wrote this guide, does all of those jobs as one done-for-you team for $1,500 a month.

The rest of this guide shows how we got those numbers, job by job, with a link to every price. Prices were checked on October 8, 2026. They change often, so check the source before you decide.

What "a full marketing team" means here

To compare fairly, every option is priced for the same monthly workload, the kind of work a typical local service business (a plumber, roofer, realtor, or law office) needs:

  • Website: hosting, speed, fixes, and updates
  • SEO (showing up on Google): ongoing fixes plus outreach to earn links from other websites
  • Google Business Profile, reviews, and listings: profile kept current, reviews watched, and your business listed correctly on directories
  • Content: 4 articles a month
  • Social media: about 3 posts a week on 3 channels
  • Video: 2 short videos a month
  • Email: 1 customer email a month
  • Competitor research: a monthly look at who you're up against
  • Reports: a regular update on what was done and what changed

Ads management and call tracking get their own sections below. They're priced separately because ad spend varies widely and not every business needs call tracking.

What the price tags don't show

  • Your time. The budget mix and the freelancer route make you the project manager: briefing, approving, chasing, and stitching reports together.
  • Contracts. Terms vary. Scorpion says it "typically requires a 12-month contract" for SEO. Hook's FAQ explains "Why is there a yearly commitment." BrightLocal's managed SEO runs on a "12-month campaign basis," and WebFX's SEO plan has a "6 month commitment." Thrive, 1SEO, Ryze, AiBizit, Luce Media, and Digital Footprint Solutions describe month-to-month or no-contract terms.
  • Who owns the work. Ask before you sign. Hook says "You own your website 100%." Scorpion says assets like "domains, content, and imagery" are yours, though you "won't own the underlying system."
  • One hire can't do everything. A single marketer rarely writes, designs, edits video, runs ads, and fixes websites equally well, so most in-house teams still pay for tools and outside help.

Which route fits you?

  • Do it yourself if you have more time than money and enjoy learning the tools. Budget about $300 – $600 a month in software, plus your evenings.
  • Freelancers if you want to choose specialists and you're comfortable managing several people.
  • An agency if you want one area (often SEO or ads) handled by specialists and the budget allows $2,000+ a month per service.
  • An in-house hire once marketing work fills a full-time job and you can give that person a tools budget and support.
  • Aipress.io if you want every job above handled by one team for one monthly price, with a weekly update and no contract.

Where Aipress.io fits (honestly)

Aipress.io is a done-for-you marketing team for local businesses. AI teammates do most of the day-to-day work (writing, updating listings, scheduling posts, checking your site, and building reports), and people review the work and set the strategy. That's how the price stays at $1,500 a month.

AI Marketing Team plan ($1,500/month), every month:

  • Website care: hosting, speed, fixes, and updates
  • Ongoing SEO, plus 2 new service or area pages and 4 articles
  • 2 Google Business Profile posts a week, reviews watched, and reply drafts
  • Directory listings fixed and checked
  • 3 social posts a week on up to 3 channels, plus comment reply drafts you approve
  • 2 short videos and 1 customer email
  • Outreach to about 20 relevant websites to earn links (links are never guaranteed)
  • A monthly competitor report and a print design every quarter
  • A plain-English progress email every week, plus a dashboard

Other plans: Starter, $750/month (the basics), and Growth, $2,500/month plus ad spend (Google Ads managed, more content and video). One-time onboarding is $500. A new website is optional, at $2,500. See every plan side by side on our pricing page.

What to know before you choose us:

  • We're newer and smaller than the big agencies named above. We'll name the businesses we work with and show you their real, dated numbers, but we have fewer case studies than a 25-year-old agency.
  • Month to month. No contracts.
  • You own your site and content.
  • No ranking guarantees. Nobody controls Google. We show you leads, rankings, and what we shipped every week.
  • Not included yet: call tracking (coming soon) and an AI phone receptionist. Ad spend is always separate.

FAQ

How much does a marketing team cost a small local business per month? Based on published prices checked October 8, 2026, covering every core marketing job costs about $1,600 a month with a budget mix of tools and vendors, $1,000 – $2,600 a month with freelancers, $3,800 – $12,300 a month with typical agencies, and about $9,600 a month for one in-house specialist including benefits. Ad spend and a new website are extra.

Is it cheaper to hire freelancers or an agency? Usually freelancers. At Upwork's median rates, roughly 72 hours of marketing work a month costs about $1,000 – $2,600, compared with $3,800 or more from agencies. The trade-off is that you manage the freelancers and fill gaps when someone is unavailable.

Is it cheaper to hire someone in-house? Not for most small businesses. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics lists a May 2025 median pay of $78,760 a year for market research analysts and marketing specialists, and $166,790 for marketing managers. With benefits (wages are about 68.5% of employer costs for full-time private-industry workers, per BLS), that's roughly $9,600 – $20,300 a month before tools.

Can AI tools replace a marketing team? AI tools like Jasper, HeyGen, Synthesia, Semrush, and Ryze make individual jobs faster and cheaper, but someone still has to plan the work, run the tools, check the output, and report on results. That's the gap Aipress.io fills: AI does the heavy lifting, and people oversee it.

Why do agency prices vary so much? Agencies price by scope, market competitiveness, and hours. For example, SmartSites prices SEO at "a minimum of 40 hours at $65 an hour," and Search Influence says its typical client engagements "range from $6,000 – $10,000 per month," with an SEO average of "$2,500 and $4,000 per month" (minimum SEO engagement "$2,500 per month"). Many agencies, including Scorpion, LocaliQ, Blue Corona, and RYNO, don't publish prices at all.

Are long marketing contracts normal? They're common. Scorpion says it "typically requires a 12-month contract" for SEO, and WebFX's SEO plan has a "6 month commitment." Others, including Thrive and 1SEO, offer month-to-month terms. Aipress.io is month to month.

Does the cost include ad spend? No. Every figure in this guide covers management or labor only. What you pay Google or Meta for ads is separate. Aipress.io has you pay ad spend directly to Google from your own account.

What does Aipress.io cost? Starter is $750 a month, the AI Marketing Team is $1,500 a month, and Growth is $2,500 a month plus ad spend. Onboarding is $500 one time, and a new website is optional at $2,500. All plans are month to month, and you own your site and content. Full details are on the pricing page.

Methodology

  • Date checked: All prices were pulled from each company's own public pages on October 8, 2026 (survey and government data are dated where noted). Prices change often. Verify on the linked page before you buy.
  • Published prices only. If a company doesn't publish a price, we say "not published" and don't estimate it. Third-party estimates of unpublished agency prices aren't used.
  • Billing basis. We use the monthly-billing price where a page shows one and note annual-billing prices separately. Promotions, taxes, usage overages, and setup fees are excluded unless stated.
  • The workload is the same in every column (see "What a full marketing team means here").
  • Budget mix = the published entry-level or typical price used for each job in this comparison, whether software or service.
  • Freelancers = Upwork's published median hourly rates × our estimate of monthly hours (website 4, SEO 20, articles 16, social 20, video editing 6, email 4, reports 2; 72 hours total). Hosting ($25) is added to the website row. The hour estimates are ours.
  • Agencies = published agency price lists and survey ranges. Jobs that agencies commonly bundle (Google profile and listings, competitor research, reports) are counted as $0, so agency totals lean low.
  • In-house = BLS median annual pay (May 2025) ÷ 12. "With benefits" divides pay by 0.685, because BLS reports that wages and salaries were 68.5% of employer costs for full-time private-industry workers in June 2026. Tools and recruiting costs aren't included.
  • Rounding: totals are sums of the rows shown, rounded to the dollar.
  • Disclosure: Aipress.io wrote this guide and sells one of the options compared. We've linked every competitor price so you can check it yourself, and we don't cite any results figures for Aipress.io.
